Suspect in Macon Gas Station Shooting Seeking Bond

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 73-year-old man accused of killing a woman at a gas station could bond out of jail.

During a bond hearing Thursday morning at the Bibb County Courthouse, attorney Veronica Reeves asked Judge Howard Simms for a $30,000 or less bond for her client, Frank Reeves. Reeves is charged with felony murder. He allegedly shot 65-year-old Linda Hunnicut in the chest after they got into a fight when he hit her vehicle with his wheelchair at the Murphy’s gas station on Gray Highway.

Brinson called several witnesses to the stand to present character testimony and also gave the judge several affidavits from Reeves’ family and his church community. Brinson says Reeves is not a flight risk and does not pose a threat to himself or others.

His family is concerned about his health and says jail is not the place for him to wait out the court proceeding. Brinson told the judge Reeves’ family plans to take full responsibility of his care and make sure he attends his court hearings.

Hunnicutt’s family was in court. Her daughter spoke to the judge and requested he deny Reeves’ bond. Bibb County Assistant District Attorney Brian Granger told Judge Simms the state is opposed to giving Reeves a bond.

Judge Simms did not make an immediate decision. He will look over the affidavits and then make a ruling.
