Suspect arrested for rape in Wheeler Co. park

MCRAE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman visiting Wheeler County says she was raped by a man in Little Ocmulgee State Park.

The call came into the Wheeler-Telfair E911 around 2:55 p.m. The victim says she was running the trails when she was grabbed.

An investigation by the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Department and the GBI led to the arrest of 32-year-old Jerry Kennedy. Authorities found Kennedy at his home on Parsonage Street.

Wheeler County Sheriff Maurice Johnson says the arrest wouldn’t have been possible without witnesses cooperation and assistance from other law enforcement agencies.

Kennedy is in the Wheeler County Jail facing multiple felony charges.
