Sunny skies return for the end of the week

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A gloomy and cool start to Thursday with widespread clouds, breezy northwest winds, and temperatures only reaching into the upper 40s. As we move

through the afternoon, a shortwave and associated low over the region rapidly moves off to the east. A dry and cool airmass spreads over the region and starts to clear out the clouds. Temperatures this afternoon will only reach the low 40s in North Georgia, and upper 40s to low 50s in Middle Georgia. As winds start to weaken this evening, temperatures will cool back down, dropping into the upper 20s to low 30s across the area by early Friday morning. A slightly warmer airmass will briefly move over the region on Friday as low level winds turn out of the west-southwest. Skies will be mostly sunny, and temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 50s across most of the area, with some low 60s in South Central Georgia. Expect a quiet weather pattern for the extended forecast. Models are not hinting at any returning precipitation until late Tuesday into Wednesday. As we move into the weekend, temperatures begin to climb back towards spring-like conditions. High temperatures by the weekend will be in the upper 60s and we may see 70s in parts of Middle Georgia as the weekend comes to a close. Overnight lows will rise out of freezing and be comfortable in the low to mid 40s.
