Summer Curfew Crackdown Curbs Teen Violence

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – All summer long Macon Police have been cracking down on the teen curfew in an effort to curb crime.

They say its working.

Since May, MPD has issued 23 citations and made three arrests. Police say one of the juveniles was arrested for breaking into a car.

Macon Police Department Major Robert Grabowski says it’s not about the numbers. The department made the decision to step up patrol in hopes to prevent crimes before they even start.

“You know that is the curfew, if you’re just wandering the streets with no particular place to go, chances are you’re getting into mischief,” Grabowski said.

Last year, MPD saw a couple of violent teen crimes but since this year’s summer detail, they haven’t seen any.

Grabowski says it’s a sign of change and credits the community for their support.

Macon’s teen curfew is enforced year round and says that anyone ages 17 and under must be off the streets between midnight and 5 a.m.
