Strong to severe storms Friday
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Good morning, we are in the low to mid 30s with partly cloudy skies. It will be a mostly sunny and nice for January this afternoon around Middle Georgia with high temperatures mainly reaching the upper 50s and lower 60s. Overnight we will cool down to the low to mid 40s with the chance of a few showers. Tomorrow we will warm up quickly as a warm front races to the north across our area destabilizing the atmosphere. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s tomorrow with dew points close by in the low to mid 60s. As of now the SPC has issued a Level 3/5 “Enhanced” risk for all of Middle Georgia for severe weather Friday afternoon. Our latest in house model and other model guidance is hinting at isolated to scattered storms, some of which could end up being rotating thunderstorms, or supercells. These supercell storms are the ones most likely to produce stronger tornadoes vs a line of storms (QLCS) where tornadoes are weaker and shorter lived, but damaging winds are stronger like we saw on Tuesday. This is not a slam dunk forecast due to model inconsistency with timing of the storm ingredients and moisture. Be sure to stay with 41NBC for the latest.
