Storms leave South Houston County family homeless

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A South Houston County family lost their home Sunday due to violent storms passing through Middle Georgia.

Jenny Myers was in tears after seeing her house on Pitts Road destroyed.

She says one of the worst parts about Sunday’s storm was she was caught off guard.

“The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and I felt the floor lift a little but,” Meyers said.”I rushed my kids into my room and we took cover.

When the storm was over, walls were torn apart, windows were broken, and many of her belongings were spread a mile away with trees and other debris.

Property owner Frank Alexander says he was in awe at the scene.

“I am so grateful to God that no one was injured,” Alexander said.”My first concern was for the family.”

Alexander has already made a claim with his insurance company and adjusters are scheduled to access the damage on Tuesday.

Myers and her family will move into her sister’s house until she can find a new home.
