UPDATE: Storm Cleanup Begins in Macon-Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – With Tropical Storm Michael out of the region, crews in Macon-Bibb County are starting the cleanup process.

As of 5:00pm, Georgia Power reports there are 3,900 homes and businesses that can accept power that are still without power. Crews have already restored power to 4,900 homes and businesses.

By 3:00 a.m., Macon-Bibb County, Georgia Power and partners have responded to reports of damage, blocked roads, power outages, and traffic signal issues. Of the 143 road closures reported or found by response crews, 107 have been cleared and 36 involve power lines. Crews will continue to verify any additional reports received.

The Facilities Management Department responded to 22 locations that had issues with traffic signals, and as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, all of those signals have been fixed.

“We were very fortunate in Macon-Bibb County with the track of the Michael going through Macon-Bibb County, and our thoughts are with the communities much more severely impacted,” says EMA Director Spencer Hawkins.

The evacuation shelter that was at South Bibb Recreation Center closed about 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Overnight during the storm, it housed 77 people.
All Macon-Bibb government offices and services will be operational on Friday, October 12.

To report damage, call the Emergency Operations Center at (478) 832-6300. This includes trees blocking the road, limbs on power lines, downed power lines, damaged buildings, etc. You can also report debris and downed trees using the SeeClickFix app. You can access the website here.

If you come across fallen power lines, treat them as if they’re active and contact Georgia Power immediately. Call (888) 891-0938 to report downed lines.
