Storm Clean-up Underway in Wilkinson County

Storms moving through Middle Georgia Tuesday night damaged parts of Wilkinson County High School.

Principal Wayn Gasaway says part of the roof over the school was blown off of the building exposing three classrooms and a storage room.  He says there’s also damage to the school’s baseball and softball complex.  The wind knocked a dugout’s roof onto an adjacent field.

Gasaway and Superintendent Aaron Geter got the call from the sheriff’s office, around 8pm.  When they arrived at the school, they worked to move several computers and other items out of the damaged classrooms to a safe place.

Gasaway is hopeful to get the repairs completed by the time school begins again in August. He also says the initial estimate to how much the repairs will cost is close to $200,000.

The summer softball practice is still scheduled to start in three weeks.
