State senate candidate Lemario Brown discusses campaign priorities
Fort Valley farmer and Senate District 18 candidate Lemario Brown says the first issue he would like to address is affordability for working class families.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The district 18 state senate race went to a runoff last month, and early voting begins soon.
Lemario Brown and Steven McNeel advanced to the runoff.
Brown, a Fort Valley farmer, says the first issue he would like to address is affordability for working class families.
“Especially here in District 18, we run into families that are having problems with trying to support their families, pay their light bill, keeping food on the table, just basic needs,” he said. “So, my number one priority is just making sure families get back to being able to sustain themselves and be more profitable here in district 18.“
There’s been a recent increase in data centers across the state. Brown is concerned about how many natural resources they take to operate.
“We’re looking at how to balance bringing these data centers in, with the amount of water they’re demanding, and the amount farmers are demanding,” he said. “So, we really have to come up with sensible legislation to create jobs and also make sure were taking care of the environment as well.”
Brown says he’ll be your voice to help fight high prices and bring them down.
“When I see gas prices go up, I don’t read about it in the headlines,” he said. “I really feel it when I go to the gas pumps. When groceries prices go up, I don’t hear about it on CNN, I actually go to the grocery store and have to pay for that myself, and I feel that. So, we’re being squeezed by these big corporations coming in and really leaving us regular people high and dry, so I want everybody to know I’ll be your voice for everybody in District 18; Democrat, Republican, black or white, I want to represent everybody.”
Brown says he would also like to see programs put in place for smaller towns to decrease food insecurity.
41NBC has also reached out to McNeel to discuss his campaign. We’re waiting to hear back.
Early voting is February 9-13. Election day is February 17.
