State Sen. Steve Gooch outlines his “Georgia First” agenda in bid for Lt. Gov.

State Sen. Steve Gooch’s priorities include eliminating the state income tax, tightening public safety laws, overhauling property taxes, and aligning closely with the policies of former President Donald Trump.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Republican State Senator Steve Gooch is making his case for Lieutenant Governor, centering his campaign on a platform he calls a “Georgia First Agenda.”

Gooch, who has served multiple terms in the Georgia State Senate, is positioning himself as a staunch conservative voice in the race. His campaign emphasizes aggressive action on crime, immigration, and economic policy, while also highlighting his support for school choice and Second Amendment protections.

A key pillar of Gooch’s campaign is his push to eliminate Georgia’s state income tax. While the proposal is popular among many conservatives, it raises significant questions about how the state would replace billions in revenue that fund essential services such as education, healthcare, and public safety. Gooch has also proposed changes to the property tax system, particularly aimed at preventing seniors and veterans from being priced out of their homes.

On public safety, Gooch is advocating for stricter penalties for violent offenders and a more hardline approach to crime. His campaign also calls for expanded efforts related to immigration enforcement, though much of that authority remains at the federal level, which could present challenges in implementation.

Gooch’s legislative record has also drawn attention during the campaign. One of the more closely watched measures he sponsored involves restricting protests near religious services. The proposal has advanced through the legislature but has sparked debate over how it balances religious freedom with First Amendment protections, potentially setting the stage for legal scrutiny if enacted into law.

In addition to statewide policy priorities, Gooch is facing questions about how his platform will address regional concerns. In Middle Georgia, communities continue to deal with economic disparities, access to healthcare, and workforce development challenges. These issues are expected to play a significant role as voters evaluate candidates ahead of the election.

The Lieutenant Governor position holds significant influence in Georgia, including presiding over the State Senate and shaping legislative priorities. As the race continues, Gooch’s campaign will likely be defined by how he addresses both the ambitious scope of his proposals and the practical realities of governing.
