St. Joseph’s Catholic School Students Sign New Gym’s Topping Beam

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The kids at St. Joseph’s Catholic school got the chance to be a part of history on Monday.

Students, faculty, and staff signed their names on the final beam that is going up as part of their brand new gymnasium and additional three classrooms. The school broke ground on the project in October. The school’s prinicpal says signing the beam will be a great memory for the students and staff.

“This is something that they will drive by for the rest of their lives and say I was a part of that. I was there when the ground was broken and I signed the beam,” Dr. Kaye Hlavaty said.

Hlavaty says she is looking forward to the perks of having a gym on the campus. Students will be able to participate in PE classes and host basketball games right next door.

The gym is scheduled to be finished by October of this year and open its doors to students in December.
