Speedfest 2014 Sunday to Feature Burton, Ragan, Nemechek and More
CORDELE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some of the best short track drivers in the country, and even a few NASCAR drivers, will be at Watermelon Capital Speedway this weekend for Speedfest 2014..
It’s two races on Sunday afternoon: the JEGS CRA Pro Late Models will race 125 laps and then the ARCA/CRA Super Late Models will hit the track for a 200 lap race.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Ragan, from Unadilla, will once again be a part of the fun.
Last year, he and Chase Elliott tangled in the final laps while racing for the lead. David expects more of the same kind of racing this weekend.
“When you’re at a very small short track, you’ve got a lot of good drivers and fast cars,” Ragan says. “You’re going to have some bumping and grinding and tempers flaring, so hopefully we can come out on the good end of it. Cordele’s a great race track.”
Qualifying will be held on Saturday. You can go for it too if you want (for no charge), but Sunday is the big finale.
David will be there, along with NASCAR drivers Jeff Burton and Joe Nemechek, whose sons will be racing.
Nationwide series drivers Dakoda Armstrong and John Wes Townley will be there too, along with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Johnny Sauter.
They’ll sign autographs at 12:30 and the races will start at 2. It’s $20 to get in and $10 for kids ages 6 to 15.
If you can’t make it down to Cordele, we’ll have coverage from the track Sunday night on the news at 11.
