Special Olympics Georgia Masters Bowling Competition Underway

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A very exciting bowling competition is officially underway in Warner Robins.

Although the Special Olympics Georgia State Masters Bowling Competition kicked off earlier on Friday, on Friday night, participants made it official with the opening ceremony.

Members of each club started the event with an introductory parade, which represented the nearly 700 bowlers from all over Georgia who will participate this weekend.

After that, it was time for a little dancing, and the athletes definitely weren’t afraid to show off their dance moves.

Special guests included the Warner Robins American Little League baseball team and Miss Warner Robins, Courtney Walker.

The event ended with a ceremonial torch lighting, marking the official beginning of this year’s competition.

“It is such a great culmination of their hard work to get here to compete on a state level,” says CEO of Special Olympics Georgia, Georgia Milton Sheats.  “It’s also fun.  They make new friends, and they really celebrate their competition and their sport of bowling.”

Bowling competitions will be held Saturday and Sunday at Gold Cup in Warner Robins and Robins Lanes on the base.  There is no charge to watch the matches.

The city will continue to host the event through 2015.  For a full schedule of the weekend’s events, visit specialolympicsga.org.
