Southwest High School Seniors Prepare for Life After Graduation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In seventy-seven days, Macon’s Southwest High school class of 2014 will walk down the aisle and move their tassels from right to left, letting everyone know they are ready to take on the world.

Although they say they are ready for graduation, not all of them are planning to go to college afterward.

The 2014 class Valedictorian, the high school homecoming queen, a rapper, and a military-bound senior sat down with 41NBC to talk about their plans for the future.

Takeyah Dunhart has made all A’s since she started at Southwest High in the ninth grade.

Dunhart is the class valedictorian, and has been accepted to the University of Georgia where she will study chemistry.

“Southwest has made me college ready,” says Dunhart. “Dr. Kilcrease tries her very best to make sure that we meet each deadline for applications and give us scholarship information.”

Kedarius Burney has his eyes set on joining the army after he graduates.

Southwest High homecoming queen Chelsey Robello plans to go to Gordon College to study nursing.

Alex Culler says he is a lyrical rapper, and is going to the Atlanta Art Institute to study music production.

Culler says he did not start off at Southwest High giving his best, but that changed as he approached his senior year.
