MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There’s a new opportunity for Macon tourists to soak up the city’s rich music history. The Southern Rock Mansion, the former home of legendary guitarist Duane Allman, is now a short-term vacation rental.
Ed Hubbard, owner of the Southern Rock Mansion, says he and his wife Angie are longtime fans of The Allman Brothers Band. The couple bought the home, located at 1125 Bond Street, last summer after falling in love with Macon.
“We love the music scene here,” Hubbard said. “There’s plenty of places to watch live music. And we’re Allman Brothers fans. When the opportunity to get this place came about it felt like it was made to happen.”
The five-bedroom, three-bath Victorian home was originally built in 1892 and was home to the music legend after he founded The Allman Brothers Band in 1969. Hubbard says the home offers guests the chance to connect with the city’s cultural heritage, as well as its influence on American music.
“It’s about 3,500 square feet approximately,” Hubbard said. “It’s a great, comfortable old home. It’s got a lot of neat features like stain glassed windows, the mural, lots of woodwork and that sort of thing. So, it’s kind of neat.”
