Sorority Honors Martin Luther King, Jr. with Day of Service
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated kicked off the Martin Luther King holiday by rolling up their sleeves in the name of service.
The ladies with the local chapter served warm soup and sandwiches at the Daybreak Center in Downtown Macon. The day of service served as a celebration of the inauguration, Martin Luther King Jr. and sisterhood.
“Its about the message that your president gives out about helping everyone and helping others,” said chapter president Sekema Harris Harmon, “our sorority is very excited that we can be apart of that nationally, as well as locally, with serving people. So it’s a momentous day.”
Harmon added that the group wanted to make the holiday a “day of service”, not just a day off work. They served about 100 people in the community.
