Soperton mayor-elect indicted for battery and terrorist threat charges
Royce Fowler was arrested in August for punching a man. The 51-year-old was issued a true bill in superior court.
41NBC spoke with Fowler in August about the incident. He said the confrontation began the day before when a resident refused to move out of the roadway preventing Fowler from driving down Georgia Highway 29.
“It was so strange. I look back now and wonder was I dreaming all of that,” Fowler said, who was driving his dump truck at the time of the incident. “I had no idea who he was when he stopped me in the roadway. Now I know him.”
A spokesperson at the Treutlen County magistrate court says until Fowler has been proven guilty, he will still remain mayor-elect of Soperton.
Fowler was a city councilman at the time of the incident and won the city’s mayoral race in a runoff election.
An arraignment date is set for January 12.
