Son Testifies In Hawaii Doctor’s Attempted Murder Trial

(CNN) – Dramatic testimony in a Hawaii courtroom as the son of a doctor accused of trying to kill his wife took the stand.

During the attempted second-degree murder trial of Gerhardt Konig, his son, Emile Konig, told jurors about a FaceTime call he says happened shortly after the alleged attack.

“What did the defendant tell you during that call?” an attorney asked.

“That Ari, my step-mom, had been cheating on him and that he tried to kill her,” Emile Konig testified.

He also told the court his father said he planned to jump off a cliff.

Prosecutors say the alleged attack happened during a hike on Oahu last year. They accuse the 47-year-old anesthesiologist of attempting to kill his wife, Arielle Konig.

According to prosecutors, Konig shoved her toward a cliff edge, tried to inject her with a syringe, and repeatedly struck her in the head with a rock.

Emile Konig testified he noticed what appeared to be blood on his father’s shirt during the call.

“I asked what was on his shirt… and he said, ‘Oh, it’s just her — meaning Ari’s — blood,’” he said.

Konig’s defense team disputes those claims, describing the incident as “an unplanned, unanticipated scuffle,” and arguing that Arielle Konig was the aggressor.

Konig testified in his own defense, telling jurors he was the one who was pushed.

“I felt like a shove and I was almost pushed over the edge,” he said. “Barely caught myself and turned around and looked at her.”

The trial is ongoing.
