Slight rain chances increase for Middle Georgia

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Moisture in the atmosphere is increasing from south to north across the region. A persistent cloud deck continues to spread northward into North Georgia

this afternoon. The surface high and dampening ridge will gradually shift east Monday. The advection of warm and moist air will similarly continue, resulting in dewpoints in the upper 40s in North Georgia and low 50s in Middle Georgia by sunrise. Temperatures on Monday afternoon will be about 4 to 7 degrees above average for late March, largely in the 70s to near 80. Isolated light showers will be possible during the late morning and afternoon, although more measurable rain chances are expected to hold off until mid-week. Models are in good agreement on the overall pattern during the extended period. The strong ridge continues to slide just off the eastern seaboard, with troughing setting up over the Central U.S. This will put Georgia under consistent deep southwest flow, which will keep temperatures warm and increase precipitation chances. With subsidence from the ridge waning, there will be sufficient moisture and diurnally driven instability to support daily showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday through next weekend. While no widespread severe weather threat is anticipated at this time, we will continue to monitor each afternoon and evening depending on how the pattern evolves. High temperatures will remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s this week, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.
