Simulator used in firefighter defense driving course
Firefighters are learning how to use their vision to help them avoid collisions. The first responders are training how to be aware of other drivers that do not follow the “move over” law.
The simulator offers a variety of scenarios. It teaches them how to smoothly steer and proper speed control.
Firefighter Billy Benzur says he is looking forward to using what he learned in the firetruck simulation course.
“This simulator was a great demonstration of how much visibility you really don’t have,” says Benzur. “But you can use your mirrors to your best advantage and have a full view of your surroundings when you’re driving a vehicle.”
The goal of the defensive driving course is for the Baldwin County firefighters to review their department’s policy and procedures of arriving at the scene of a fire safely.
