MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Downtown Macon has a new destination for sweet treats with the recent opening of Shuster’s Candy and Creamery on Poplar Street.

Owners Jonathan and Tennille Shuster opened the creamery on July 30 after three years of planning. The couple said the new shop is a revival of a family legacy that started in 1955, when Jonathan’s grandfather first opened Shuster’s Creamery in Newark, New Jersey.

A sweet comeback story

Jonathan Shuster said the idea to reopen the creamery in Macon came after he and his wife moved to the city and noticed a lack of options for candy and dessert downtown.

“We get a lot of comments of people saying we’ve been waiting for something like this,” said Shuster. “So, it’s just wonderful to know that something we identified as a need resonates with the community too.”

He added that he and his siblings wanted to carry on what their grandfather started nearly 70 years ago.

Open for business on Poplar Street

The creamery is located at 616 Poplar Street and is open Wednesday through Sunday.

The Shusters told 41NBC News community feedback since opening has been overwhelmingly positive, and they’re excited to bring something new — and nostalgic — to downtown Macon.
