Seniors evacuate Savannah nursing home, head to Twiggs County for shelter

TWIGGS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Medical professionals from the coast are working with medical professionals in middle Georgia to help seniors get to some where safe during evacuations.

Advanced Health and Rehabilitation Center in Twiggs County opened its doors to 87 patients from Oceanside Nursing Rehab Center in Savannah.

87 men and women are now calling the small town of Jeffersonville home.

“I was on my way to take my daddy to the doctor but I had to stop by here because this is so awesome. I mean, you would never expected a little town like Jeffersonville will help all of these people,” says Debbie Hill who lives in Twiggs County.

Bus loads of patients filled the facility as they took a view of their new place.

Sylvester Parrish, who is a patient at Oceanside Nursing Rehab Center says, “It was a long ride. It just be a lot of people that I never met before.”

“We’re going to love on them. we’re going to make them feel at home. We’re actually their parents while they’re here but this is their house, we are going to let them do anything they want, we’re just going to treat them like kings and queens,” says Randy Lewis who is the administrator at Advanced Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Nine nurses, three dietitians, and three housekeepers from the Tybee Island facility also traveled to Twiggs County to help out.
