Senior citizens want new senior center

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some Bibb County residents are upset because they say their tax dollars are not being spent wisely.
Nearly two million dollars of the penny sales tax money was set aside to build a new senior center, but they say they are being left out of the process.
Leroy Thompson, is the president of the senior group at the center. he says a new senior center was included in the latest Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST.)
“We are trying to get the city and county, the mayor and commissioners to understand that this problem needs to be addressed while the money is still there, ” said Thompson.
Thompson says he was told officials were looking at several places for the new facility. However, he says no one from the center has seen any of the potential buildings. Thompson  added, they want to be a part of the selection process.
Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation Director Dale “Doc” Dougherty says the senior center has not been overlooked.
“We haven’t finalized anything so no one has been left out,” said Dougherty. “We want the right building with all the amenities for our active seniors.”
