Senior Citizens Enjoy Free Christmas Lunch

Senior citizens from Macon were given a free lunch today at the Frank Johnson Recreation Center.

Organizer Melvin Flowers has been giving local seniors the opportunity to enjoy a free Christmas lunch for seven years now.

Flowers says senior citizens are a critical part of the community, and organizing events like this are important for the seniors, especially during the holidays.

He said, “I just try to bring joy to their hearts, because I know at this time of year some of these seniors have family and some of them don’t.”

Mayor Robert Reichert was also in attendance today to wish attendees a Merry Christmas. Everyone at the lucheon was entertained by two local dance groups, as well as by singing Christmas carols.

Today’s luncheon was supported and funded by local banks, restaurants, and individual volunteers.
