Senior Citizen Center Coming Soon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new senior citizen center will soon break ground in Central City Park.
In a committee meeting Tuesday, commissioners approved the center being named after Commissioner Elaine Lucas.
Commisioner Larry Schlesinger said Lucas worked hard on the center.
“A naming opportunity presented itself and I feel that the senior center that she’s put time, effort, and energy into would best be named in her honor,” Schlesinger said.
Lucas said the center will be a great place for seniors.
“I’m flattered that I’ll forever be a part of it and so I just think this is a very wise use of tax payer money and our citizens, especially our seniors will benefit,” she said.
The senior center was approved for $2,200,000. The center is a part of several new projects in Central City Park.
The projects together cost more than $15,000,000, according to Macon-Bibb spokesperson Chris Floore.
The center is expected to be finished in less than a year.
Commissioners will vote on the final approval of the center next Tuesday.
