Secretary of State Weighs in on Bibb-Monroe Border War

The Bibb-Monroe County border war made its way to the State Capitol Tuesday afternoon, where Secretary of State Brian Kemp listened to both sides argue their cases.

At the hearing, Bibb County objected to Administrative Law Judge John Sherrill’s 16 page findings in favor of Monroe County, saying he missed important evidence from the 3 day hearing, which took place in early March.

Bibb County also presented new evidence to help throw out the controversial land survey done by Terry Scarborough, but Monroe County attorneys say Bibb’s arguments are full of unreliable evidence.

According to Bibb County Attorney Virgil Adams, close to $20 million is at stake, which included $875,000 dollars a year Bibb County would lose in taxes. Plus, more than a million dollars in school taxes.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp concluded Tuesday’s hearing by urging the leaders from both counties to reach an agreement on their own.

Both sides have until June 30th , to submit post-hearing briefs to Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
