Secretary of State to Make Final Decision on Bibb- Monroe Border War

Secretary of State Brian Kemp will hold a news conference tomorrow at 9 am to announce his final decision on the long disputed border war between Bibb and Monroe Counties.

Millions of dollars in tax revenue are at stake in this long standing dispute. According to a land survey done in 2009 by Terry Scarborough, the Monroe County line should be farther south. Bibb County officials claim the survey was done incorrectly.

In March attorneys for both counties argued in front of Administrative Law Judge Jim Sherrill for 3 days. Both sides presented hundreds of pieces of evidence and called expert witnesses.

In the end Judge Sherrill sided with Monroe County. He released a 17 page recommendation to Secretary of State Brian Kemp in favor of Monroe County.

Earlier this summer Kemp toured the disputed ferry landings for himself to better understand what each side was arguing.

The decision will take place at the Secretary of State’s Professional Licensing Boards Division.
