Second Street construction ahead of schedule

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Construction on the Second Street corridor is ahead of schedule.

Bert Maxwell, Vice President of Bert Maxwell Furniture, said the construction hasn’t really affected business because his store is located so close to Poplar Street.

People are still shopping in his store and he’s excited to hear the road work is ahead of schedule.

“It’ll be more pedestrian friendly and people will be able to walk up, and sit on a bench in front of our store,” said Maxwell.

Other business owners agree. Both managers from Ginger and Redemption Tattoo said they’re happy to hear the project is moving along faster than originally planned.

Construction hasn’t started on Maxwell’s side of the street yet, but he believes this project is just the thing to put Downtown back on the map.
