Search continues for Milledgeville mobile home shooters

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two early morning shootings kept Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies busy trying to capture the gunmen.

“Just heard shooting that’s all I heard,” says Broderick Mitchell. “We’re just happy everybody was alright.”

Broderick Mitchell’s mobile home is located on Barnes Avenue in Milledgeville. It was the target for shooters.

The shooting happened early Tuesday around 2:00 a.m. That’s when deputies say the gunmen fired several shots at Mitchell’s mobile home. His family, including four children, were inside the house.

“It was a few that hit the house I think it was like, 35 but probably like 10 to 13 only hit,” explained Mitchell. “When I woke up only thing I could see is my girlfriend hit the floor and I could see my daughter had ran out I tried to tell her to get low.”

Minutes later gunmen fired shots at another mobile home, located on Lockwood Street about two miles away from the first incident. The bullets also hit the next door neighbor’s home.

“At this time we’re treating it like these incidents are all connected,” said Baldwin County Sheriff’s Capt. Brad King. “We will wait and see how our investigation progresses to make a determination if they are in fact involved.”

Capt. King tells 41NBC his deputies spotted the possible getaway car about three hours later.

“A deputy was in the same area and observed a vehicle with gun shots being fired out of both windows,” added King.

After a short chase, the suspects jumped out of their car and ran away.

Investigators were searching the wooded area near the Town and Country shopping Center on South Wayne Street.  Mitchell hopes the suspects who are responsible for shooting up his home are captured quickly.

“I’m not plotting anything, no retaliation,” he admitted. “I don’t do none of that anymore.”

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office believes the same caliber of shell casings were found at both locations. Investigators add these shootings could possibly be gang related.
