School Bus Drivers Compete in State Safety Competition
KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – School bus drivers from across the state got to show off their skills during the nation’s first propane school bus driver skills test.
Sixty-three drivers competed in this year’s Georgia Pupil Transportation Competition. These drivers are the best of the best. They had to pass a written test and go through a faulty bus inspection. The drivers also had to drive a 12 part obstacle course where they parallel parked, drove through cones forwards and backwards, and drove through tight spaces.
Bartow County bus driver Melanie Paulin says fine tuning these skills helps her while she is out on the road with your precious cargo.
“I believe it has helped me drive as a bus more safely,” she said. “I pay more attention to how I maneuver my bus and the little tricks and turns it takes to get your bus in and out of tight places.”
The winner of the competition will go on to compete in the National Transportation Safety Competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
