Schlesinger, Ficklin Make Final Preparations Before Election Day
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There is one last election a group of residents in Bibb County.
After a drawn-out race that saw a legal dispute over incorrect district lines and multiple run-offs,
the District 2 race between Larry Schlesinger and Henry Ficklin *should be decided Tuesday.
The election is looming.
“And what we’ve been doing we’ve been making sure that we get out and continue to knock on doors and walk the streets and encourage people to get out and vote,” said Ficklin.
“We’ll still be contacting voters and knocking on doors and making telephone calls and those kinds of activities really until the polls close at 7 o’clock on Tuesday,” said Schlesinger.
And both candidates for District 2 on the Macon-Bibb Board of Commissioners have their campaigns in full swing before election day Tuesday.
Henry Ficklin and Larry Schlesinger have faced more than what most candidates face–multiple runoff elections.
For Ficklin, the legal battle was worth it.
“That was my major fight,” said Ficklin. “Of course, that drained me from my financial resources, but I feel good that I was able to get the election done right. One of the most dangerous things that we can face in this society is that people are denied the right to vote. There’s been too much done in order to get the right to vote, and if we don’t have the right to vote then certainly, we’re treading on dangerous ground.”
For Schlesinger, he continued to focus on his policy through it all.
“We’re just doing the same things that we have done in the past and which have been very very successful for us,” said Schlesinger. “I’m honored that I received the most votes in both the September election and the October election. We’ve just focused on those same issues–economic development, quality education for our children, and safe neighborhoods that we all can live in.”
And both candidates hope the right decision will be made Tuesday.
Tonight we tallied up the early voting numbers–according to the numbers 41NBC received from the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections, 400 people have already cast their ballot for the district 2 race.
Remember, election day is this upcoming Tuesday, January 14th.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, and both candidates encouraged everyone to vote in this important election.
