Scattered showers continue into Friday and beyond

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A gloomy start to the day across most of northern and Middle Georgia as a mid-level wave pushed through the area. Drier air on the backside of this wave combined with daytime mixing allowed for some scattering of the cloud deck, which allowed for the sun to peek through, especially across southern areas. By late Thursday morning to early afternoon, diurnal mixing breaks up the cloud cover, and will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 70s to low 80s. Late in the afternoon through the evening hours, a shortwave impulse wrapping around the mid-level low/trough to the north will push across the area, sparking scattered showers and thunderstorms. Across northern areas, a few storms could be severe. The primary threats would be damaging winds and large hail. The Storm Prediction Center has most of Georgia in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather, with a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) across far northern areas.
