Scammers targeting Macon Water Authority customers

The authority sent a new release Thursday night saying they’ve received numerous calls from commercial accounts explaining an imposter threatened to turn off their water service if they didn’t pay their bill. 

Executive Director Tony Rojas says they’d never make a threat like that to customers. 

“Obviously, we don’t make calls like that to our customers. Fortunately, they were calling us to inquire which is the right thing to do. You know, just hang up and call us on our published number,” Rojas said. 

The MWA wants customers to let them, or the police know if they receive calls requesting immediate payment from someone claiming to be MWA.  

The notice is now on MWA’s website and they have notified the Sheriff’s office.
