Scammers targeting customers of Fort Valley Utility Commission

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Fort Valley Utility Commission is warning consumers of scammers trying to take their money.

Sue Roach, a customer service manager at the commission, says they’ve received about 20 calls this month from people complaining a caller demanded money then threatened to turn off their power.

She says no one on her staff would make a direct call.

“We do not direct call anyone and demand payment over the phone or threaten to disconnect at that point. We’ve also updated our social media accounts. We’ve added a statement to our website and also put a message on our phone system,” Roach said.

No one lost any money during the scammer calls.

Roach says if you have any questions about your bill, call the utility commission at 478-825-7701 option #3.
