Say bye-bye warmth, hello cold temperatures for Thanksgiving

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Following an active Tuesday, expect things to continue to trend toward more tranquil conditions as we approach Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving will feature

weather to be truly thankful for, with a reinforcing shot of dry air combined with increasing subsidence under high pressure supporting mostly sunny skies. Highs for Thursday will reflect pre- versus post-frontal conditions; in the 50s to 60s along and north of I-85, and in the 70s to the south. Lows tonight will be much cooler and more seasonable – (with as much as a 20-25 degree swing in the low between this morning and tomorrow morning), in the 30s for all except far northeast Georgia which may drop into the upper 20s Our stretch of unseasonably warm November weather officially comes to an end on Thanksgiving, with highs expected to be in the upper 40s to near 60. The long term forecast starts off quite chilly with temperatures Friday morning in the 20s to near freezing and afternoon highs in the 40s to mid 50s. High pressure continues to slide eastward staying in place across much of the Southeast through Saturday keeping things dry and cool. The only thing that we are watching through Saturday will be potential fire weather concerns as Relative Humidity Values are likely to dip below critical thresholds of 25% specifically across portions of Middle Georgia. Between Saturday and Sunday, the surface high shifts off the eastern seaboard as a developing low pressure system lifts towards the Great Lakes region. Moisture will gradually return to the region. According to the models, there are signals that rain may return early next week with a possibility of a few rounds of rain in the days following. While temperatures will be dependent upon how this weather pattern evolves, expect some gradual warming through the weekend — although not quite as warm as pre-Thanksgiving, with seasonal normal temperatures heading into next week.
