Saturday’s Pro Late Model Race At Gresham Motorsports Park Honors Late Macon Racer Beau Slocumb
JEFFERSON, GA – This Saturday, April 7th, Pro Late Model racers from across the Southeast will take to the half-mile asphalt track known as “Georgia’s Fastest Short Track,” Gresham Motorsports Park, to honor a fellow driver.
The 2nd-Annual Beau Slocumb Memorial Presented by US Auto Sales will open up the 2012 race season at Gresham and will honor the late Beau Slocumb, a popular young driver from Macon who died of cancer in April 2011.
The event will feature exciting racing with Pro Late Models, Outlaw Late Models, Trucks, Sportsman, Renegades and Mini Stock classes competing. NASCAR drivers Chase Elliott and Max Gresham along with defending race champion Bubba Pollard are just some the racers who will be competing in the event.
“It’s definitely going to be a memorable event this weekend,” 16-year-old NASCAR K&N Series driver Chase Elliott said. “I didn’t race against Beau a lot, but from what little I saw he was a real good guy, and unfortunately he lost his battle with cancer so that was a tough deal for everybody in the racing community. We’ll race 208 laps in memory of his number because he ran the No. 08.”
The feature event will be comprised of three segments with a purse of $2,500 to the winner of the first 100 laps, $3,000 to the winner of the second segment of 75 laps and $4,500 to the winner of the final 33 laps. The total amount of $10,000 will be given to a driver who wins all three segments, 208 laps, and $1,000 for a single driver to start all three segments.
The 2nd-Annual Easter Egg drop for the kids at GMP will be at 4:25 pm, before the opening ceremonies for the night’s events. Candy and prize eggs will be dropped for kids onto pit road from a helicopter; prize eggs will include: candy, race tickets, cash, t-shirts, gift cards and more.
