Saturday Hours for Macon-Bibb Co. Animal Shelter Are a Success
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Are you interested in adopting an animal but can’t make it out to the shelter during the work week? That’s why the Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare Center offers Saturday hours. Tomorrow marks the second Saturday the shelter is open and officials say so far, the new hours are working well.
“The first Saturday was awesome,” Sarah Tenon, director of animal welfare, said. “We had a great turnout.”
She says animal control officials were able to adopt or rescue pull 11 animals on December 1st, the first Saturday the shelter was open.
“Our public support and the rescue support, they really came out and it was really, really good.”
And she hopes turnout on Saturdays will only get better.
“We need it to be successful.”
One of the main reasons for its success is convenience.
“It provided an opportunity for them [people looking to adopt] to bring the whole family so they could make a family decision,” Tenon said. “The hours were convenient.”
With the new hours and the holidays underway, Tenon hopes more people will come out and adopt. She doesn’t encourage giving pets as gifts, but if you’re ready to make a forever friend then you should adopt.
“If you’re able to make a commitment with your family and you’re looking for your forever friend, please come to the animal shelter.”
Tenon hopes to see even more people coming out to the shelter tomorrow. If you’re interested in adopting, the welfare center is open Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
