Sandy Beach Water Park opens in two weeks
The original plans included a wave pool, permanent bathrooms, and an inflatable dome over the lap pool, but because of set backs, the park won’t have these features when it opens this year. Still, the developer and Macon-Bibb residents are eagerly awaiting the big day.
The Georgia heat is here to stay and Macon is finally getting a new place where residents can cool off.
“We’ve worked so hard for so long, through every possible obstacle. Seeing this come to fruition so we can provide the entertainment and make people happy, it’s unbelievable,” said Sandy Beach Park Developer and owner Jeff Franklin.
41NBC caught Olivia and Briana Wright at Claystone Park doing their favorite summer activity.
“Playing in the water. Swim on my noodle, float on it,” explained Olivia.
They think the new water park will definitely make them happy.
“A big swirly, swirly slide. You’re going to swirl around in the slide and then fall into the water,” imagined Olivia.
The sisters will be able to play in the lazy river, a splash pad, and if they’re at least 42 inches tall, the big swirly slide.
“That’s what we want to do. We want to cause people to enjoy the afternoon, leave here refreshed and ready to come back the next day,” explained Franklin.
Aside from putting the final touches on his park, Franklin is training top-notch lifeguards.
“It’s probably the most difficult to pass to be a lifeguard here, very thorough. These kids are going to know what they’re doing out here,” said Franklin.
To make sure Olivia, Briana, and everyone else play safely in and out of the water.
One of the biggest concerns is permanent bathrooms. Macon-Bibb Commissioners gave the park 5 years to install them. Until then, Franklin promises the temporary ones will have air conditioning, showers, and be very clean.
