Sandersville Woman Arrested for ‘Violent’ Facebook Comments

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Sandersville woman was arrested for posting “violent” comments on Facebook during an online argument in September.

Sonya Lee Durden, 38, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in Washington County in direct connection to comments posted on social media. Following an argument with two other women, Durden took to Facebook writing posts that were “violent” in nature and included demeaning comments about special needs children. According to Washington County Magistrate Judge Ralph Todd, they were disturbing enough to “cause the two other women to fear for their safety” and authorities were notified. He would not name the other women or children involved.

Durden was arrested on September 3 by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. One condition of her bond was she would “not get back on Facebook”, Todd said. An investigator monitoring the case noticed Durden’s recent activity on the site and she was arrested again on September 26 for violating her bond. She was released on Monday morning.

As of right now, the district attorney is not involved, but Todd said if the “cyber bullying” continues, they will have to move a step further.

“I don’t know if you would call this a felony or a misdemeanor,” Todd said, “the laws of the state of Georgia have not caught up with the computer age.”
