Salvation Army Macon gets computer lab, vans, and shelter upgrades
Blevins says giving back is important because you never know the next persons story.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Salvation Army of Macon has added new resources including a computer lab, vans, and upgrades to its shelters thanks to donations from the Peyton Anderson Foundation and Navicent Health.
The contributions funded a lab with 11 desks and 10 laptops, a 12-passenger van for the veterans program, and a minivan for residents of the Center of Hope shelter. Central Georgia integration coordinator Paula Blevins says these gifts provide more opportunities to help.
“These vehicles helps carry our clients to appointments they have in the community,” she said. “The playground of course is for our families and family shelter. Basketball goals, courts, which helps the guys get a little more exercise. And of course just upgrading indoors in the shelters themselves.”
Blevins says giving back is important because you never know the next person’s story.
“We could find ourselves in those situations,” she said. “And where there’s someone in the community that will offer a hand up to people, rather than a handout, and being able to support people where they are and the decisions they need to make, and how they can move forward in their lives, that’s very important. So, this is a great opportunity for us to have more resources and facilities to do that.”
She believes these donations will help the city continue to grow.
“These generous donations from Navicent Health and Peyton Anderson foundation are going to help a lot of people in out communities and the Macon area, with a lot of there needs, and we are very grateful,” she said.
The Salvation Army says the ceremony recognized the continued generosity of the Peyton Anderson Foundation and the Navicent Health Foundation, whose help has transformed the Macon campus.
The Salvation Army is encouraging the community to continue giving donations.
