MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The holiday season is a time of joy, but for many families, it can also be a time of need. That’s where the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program steps in.

On distribution day Tuesday, families drove through designated pickup areas to receive donated Christmas gifts for their children. This year alone, the Angel Tree program is assisting 274 families, representing 742 children across the region.

“These gifts that are in the bags, tied up, are the gifts that are ready to go to the children,” Captain Paula Blevins said. “Today is distribution day. It is a big day. We’re very thankful for all the volunteers that have come out to help us, and it’s just a great process to see the families drive up, get their gifts and see the Christmas spirit that everyone has.”

The Angel Tree program relies entirely on community support. Angel tags are placed on trees throughout the area, including the main Angel Tree at The Shoppes at River Crossing in Macon. Community members select a tag, purchase the suggested gifts and return them unwrapped. Volunteers then sort and organize the items before families pick them up just ahead of Christmas.

41NBC proudly partnered with the Salvation Army to support this effort and help ensure local children wake up to gifts under their Christmas trees. For those unable to shop in person, monetary donations can also be made online through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
