MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – S&S Cafeteria on Riverside Drive is working toward recovery after a fire damaged the kitchen and the back of the building Saturday night.

S&S Cafeterias CEO Rick Pogue says he is coordinating with the insurance company to reopen the restaurant, which has been a Macon staple since the 1970s.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said Monday. “You know, we’ve been here so long, we’ve never had an issue of any sort like that. With everything going on in the other markets with the hurricane and the storm, I thought it had to do with something related to that.”

Investigators say it’s too early to determine how the fire started.

While the Riverside Drive location is closed, guests can visit the S&S Cafeteria at 3724 Bloomfield Village Drive.

“We had just an outpouring of comments from our guests and prayer requests and all kinds of stuff,” Pogue said.

Pogue says he hopes to reopen the Riverside location within the next couple of months.
