Rutland Boys Get Revenge on West Laurens
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Rutland’s boys basketball team fell to West Laurens by 13 points on Saturday.
In a rematch Tuesday night in the 2-AAAA Tournament at Rutland High School, the Hurricanes rebounded from their off night Saturday to beat the Raiders 76-31.
The ‘Canes led 27-14 at the half before exploding in the third quarter, going on a 29-3 run to take a 56-17 lead at the start of the fourth.
Tylik Evans led Rutland in scoring with 15 points. Jalen Kirkland and Shakenneth Williams both had 10.
With the win, Rutland (20-5) advances to the tournament semifinals Thursday against Westside and also locks up a state playoff spot.
Perry’s boys beat Baldwin 55-44 Tuesday to earn a spot in the playoffs and advance to the region semifinals Thursday against Veterans.
On the girls’ side, Westside upset West Laurens 40-38 Tuesday to earn a playoff spot. The Lady ‘Noles will play host Rutland Thursday in the region tourney semifinals.
Also Tuesday, Veterans girls beat Howard 63-41. The Warhawks will play top-seeded Mary Persons in the semis.
