WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As the government shutdown stretches into its third day, some Middle Georgia residents are feeling the strain of reduced federal services and financial uncertainty.

Trudy Kenworth, says she was unable to obtain a Red, White, and Blue replacement Medicare card at the local Social Security office. Staff directed her to the Medicare website, as in-person services have been scaled back during the shutdown.  With an upcoming doctor’s appointment, Kenworth found herself without the documentation she needed.

The Social Security Administration, like many federal agencies, has posted notices about limited operations. Routine services that residents rely on are temporarily unavailable, adding to the stress and uncertainty.

Trudy’s son Russell Reno says he has family facing furloughs at Robins Air Force Base.

“It hurts a lot of people all the way around. I’ve got family that works on a military base. They’re furloughed. They don’t know if their job is going to come back when they do open back up,” he stated.

To help those affected, Robins Financial Credit Union has launched a series of relief programs.

April Mouton Beal, Vice President of Community Engagement and Marketing, says the credit union is committed to supporting members during this uncertain time.

“This will relieve the burden and the stress of wondering when the next paycheck will be or how bills will be paid,” Beal said.

Employees from Robins Air Force Base and other federal workers have already begun reaching out for assistance.

Eligible members can apply for three forms of assistance: a Payment Protection Program offering a 0% interest loan equal to the member’s most recent direct deposit (up to $6,000), a low-interest loan for those whose pay is not directly deposited into a Robins Financial account that lasts about 6 months, and a skip-a-pay program on qualifying loans.

Additional help is available on a case-by-case basis.
