Robins Air Force Base Maintenance Group Awarded by OSHA

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Men and women of the 402nd maintenance support group, at Robins Air Force Base (RAFB) were honored for keeping a safe and clean environment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, (OSHA) presented its highest award to the maintenance support group, Friday.

“It is so neat to see, the outstanding men and women of Middle Georgia come together and do hard things,” said the Commander of Air Logistics Complex at (RAFB), Brigadier General Cedric George. “You know we do hard things here on this base and in Middle Georgia. But, to see this team recognized in the way that they did today was phenomenal. I’m very proud of this team.”

The support group won the OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program STAR SITE award in August. They join a select few in the country receiving the distinction.

OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program builds on safety and occupational health programs already in place in businesses. Their goal is to help reduce workplace mishaps and improve the overall well-being of employees.

The 402nd maintenance support group provides industrial, engineering, and laboratory services for maintenance production groups in the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex. They started working towards receiving the STAR SITE award nearly five years ago. Their work was captured in photographs and journals.

“It’s about all the people in here,” says the Deputy Director of the maintenance support group, Johnny Jones. It’s a team effort over 360 people are involved and it’s to make this a safe site. So, people can go home, the same way the come to work everyday.”

The Area Director for OSHA’s Atlanta East Area Office, William Fulcher, explained the meaning behind the award.

“The recognition of knowing that the workers here will go home safe and helpful and just knowing that they can count on each other to support each other and that support has lead to this success,” says Fulcher.
