Robins Air Force Base Annual Impact on State: $2.9B

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Georgia (RAFB) – The base has an annual impact on Georgia of nearly $2.9 billion.

That’s according to Robins’ economic impact statement for fiscal 2012, which was released today.

The number differs from that of previous years, when it was near or above $4 billion.  But that’s because the base is now using different methodology – commonplace at most Air Force installations – to prepare the analysis.

For instance, the monetary value of health benefits had been used to calculate employee salaries.  Retiree pay was also factored in.  Those numbers are no longer used in determining the total.

One thing that did not change is the sizable impact the base has on indirect jobs in the state.  According to the review, that totaled $1.2 billion.
