BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –Families in Byron are kicking off the holiday season by heading out to Roberts Christmas Tree Farm to find the perfect Christmas tree. The farm allows visitors to drive directly onto the property and walk the fields in search of the one they want to take home.

Roberts Christmas Tree Farm has been growing trees in Middle Georgia since 1978. Mike Roberts says the farm started when his grandfather, Eddie Roberts, decided to turn his love for Christmas into something the whole community could enjoy.

“My grandfather Eddie Roberts started the farm in ’78 due to a serious love for Christmas time, Christmas trees,” Roberts said.

Now decades later, he says it’s the families who return year after year that make the work meaningful.

“We have a ton of people that have been coming out since literally like the early 80s… we’re seeing three and four generations where Grandma and Grandpa started a tradition, and now it’s being passed on to the grandkids who are 17 and 18 years old,” he said.

Roberts says cutting a tree straight from the stump guarantees freshness. With proper care, he says families can get six to eight weeks out of their tree.

He recommends adding lukewarm water daily after setting the tree up inside.

For many visitors, choosing a real tree is a tradition they wanted to continue with their own families.

“I grew up having a real Christmas tree, so that’s just something I wanted to continue doing with my family,” shopper Michael Moniz said.

“We decided this year as our first year being married to go for a real Christmas tree. Here we are picking it out,” said shopper Mckayla Haynes.

Roberts says the farm plants new trees every year. It takes about four to six years for a tree to grow to the height most families look for. As more generations return each holiday season, he says the goal is to keep the tradition alive for decades to come.

Festivities at Roberts Christmas Tree Farm are happening through Sunday, November 30, 2025.
