River Edge Behavioral Health Center to House Opportunity for People Living with HIV and AIDS

MACON. Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A non-profit organization has stepped in to temporarily house those in need, since the Rainbow House lost 90 percent of its funding.

River Edge Behavioral Health Center typically provides affordable housing to low-income tenants with mental and physical disabilities; however, they are taking on a new project.

They renovated an undisclosed building in Macon to house more than 30 people living with HIV and AIDS.

The Chief Executive Officer Shannon Terrell Harvey says she and her staff wanted a safe and comfortable place for victims of the virus to stay.

“We wanted first to make sure folks who were already receiving services did not have interruptions in services,” Harvey says, “Secondly, there are individuals who have HIV and are served through the HOPE Center. We did reach out to our community partner, the HOPE center, and just through word of mouth to find people who are need of housing who are HIV positive.”

After months of renovation, clients were able to move-in today.
