Restaurant Report Card: Rooster’s Down Home Country Kitchen

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “We’ve always wanted something country to eat,” said Rooster’s Down Home Country Kitchen owner Paul Lynch.

When you get that hankerin’ for the farm life kind of food, the rooster greets you like he greets a new day.

“We’ve always had to travel so far,” said Lynch. “The rooster puts you back in that country mode.”

You don’t have to travel too far to get to Rooster’s Down Home Country Kitchen on Houston Road in Macon.

“And rooster’s down home country kitchen is where you want to come to have down home country eating food,” said Lynch.

Wake up and smell the fried chicken.

“The rooster crows early in the morning, let’s you know to start your day,” said Lynch. “We used to get up at the crack of dawn and make sure everything was fresh and daily prepared.”

The roosters are all over the place–it was something Lynch’s late wife Ursula was passionate about.

“I think she would be excellent to know that the restaurant is still going on in her honor and we’re going to continue as long as we possibly can,” said Lynch.

I know she’s proud of the food Rooster’s serves.

“My favorite thing on the menu is fried pork chops–on Sundays the ox tails, turkey wings, meatloaf, basically everything on the menu,” said Lynch.

The perfect health inspection is like a breath of fresh air at dawn.

“You pay attention in class, you can make 100,” said Lynch. “Do the things that the teacher asks you to do, you make a 100. So we did everything the health department asked us to do and we made a 100.”

Rooster’s Down Home Country Kitchen is making the grade, and here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week:

Bombay Indian Restaurant on Bloomfield Village Drive scored a 74.

An employee put food on a plate with her bare hands, there was no soap at the hand sink, and there was a pink and brown mold-like substance on the ice machine.
