Restaurant Report Card: Liz’s Southern Kitchen & Catering

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You can get some sweet southern cooking just like grandma’s at Liz Southern Cooking and Catering.

It’s on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins.

Grab a bite of some turkey wings, rutabagas or creamed corn.

The servers will treat you like they grew up with you.

Plus, the health inspection is a perfect 100.

“Just the way I grew up, yup,” said Liz’s Southern Cooking & Catering owner Liz McMillian.

Her kitchen experience goes way back.

“And I wanted to get into cooking and doing the things we normally do at home,” said McMillian.

All the way back to grandma’s kitchen.

“We’re having fresh rutabagas tomorrow so they’re prepping on it,” said McMillian.

Miss Liz makes it look good over at Liz’s Southern Cooking and Catering.

“Potatoes, dressing, fresh creamed corn,” said McMillian.

But first, here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week.

Golden Corral at 2924 Watson Boulevard in Centerville scored a 75.

Employees left an open Gatorade bottle next to some food, there were unsealed containers of food on a shelf, and there was old sugar sitting in the cotton candy machine.

Other scores this week:

Bertha’s Kitchen on Rose Street – 100

BJ’s Orioles Nest on Moody Road – 94

Chevy’s of Warner Robins on Russell Parkway – 85

China House on St. Patrick’s Drive – 100

Fly By Sno Biz on Russell Parkway – 96

Friends On The Hill on Westcliff Boulevard – 100

Johnny’s New York Style Pizza on Highway 96 – 92

Kimberly’s BBQ on Sam Nunn Boulevard – 100

Mama Mia Pizza & Pasta on Watson Boulevard – 97

Sonny’s Real Pit BBQ on St. Patrick Drive – 88

TJ & Son Foods on Garmon Street – 100

Zen Japanese Steakhouse on Watson Boulevard – 89

When your cooking tastes just like grandma’s, word gets around.

“Right now we’re trying to get everything stocked up,” said McMillian. “So I guess once somebody eat it and taste it and see that it’s real good, somebody else gonna tell them and they gonna come.”

Come on down.

“It is awesome,” said customer Tiffany Scott. “It’s just like my mom and my grandmother used to do it. So I’m here at least four days a week.”

“Oh yes, their desserts are delicious,” said Scott.

Plus staying clean is important.

“It’s very important to me,” said McMillian. “Because I don’t wanna give my customers something I wouldn’t eat. And I try to make sure that everything here is clean. All my workers, they’ve had the food handling class.”

They’re handling it well over at Liz’s–they’re making the grade this week.

“Everybody knows me by now, so they call me by name when I come in. It’s just like home,” said Scott.
